New Door, New Floor, Books Galore… And Summer Events!

2024-07-02T17:53:09-04:00

Dear Friends, The school continues to take shape. This week our dear friend Rick fixed the front door, our friend Liz laid the floor in our Early Learning (pre-K) space and Juliana’s teacher friends from her time as a principal in Hamilton-Wenham came to organize the classroom library. Many more have been organizing and cleaning! We are incredibly blessed by the beautiful books we have acquired, and we continue to collect art books and field guides. Glory to God for all things! We have lots of plans to get you into our space this summer! Would you like to see the [...]

It’s Happening! (Paint and Furniture, Oh My!)

2024-06-22T16:36:33-04:00

Last week we received an incredible donation of school furniture and books. With the help of volunteers, we were able to move everything into our new space in Boxford, and on Monday we started painting. Over the next two weeks, we will continue preparing classrooms in order to be able to tour families and friends by the middle of July. It is miraculous how the school has been blessed each step of this journey.

Theater at SGCA

2024-06-19T12:13:12-04:00

Performing in a theatrical production challenges students to enter deeply into difficult texts and rewards them with an experiential understanding of the story, a richness of language, and a sense of accomplishment that encourages them to approach classical literature with confidence. Memorization, attention to detail, public speaking, and expanding one’s comfort zone are embodied within the dramatization of a theatrical production. We are thrilled to be able to offer theater across our school, as we welcome Tess McKinley to Saint George Classical Academy. Tess McKinley joins us as a theater and humanities teacher. She will integrate theater across the curriculum, offering [...]

When We Sing Well, We Pray Twice

2024-06-19T12:15:46-04:00

“When we sing well, we pray twice.” – St. Augustine of Hippo As one of the Seven Liberal Arts, music is an essential part of our program at Saint George Classical Academy. Learning to sing and play an instrument opens a child to the world of music, rich in beauty and culture. Studying music develops confidence, discipline and a sense of joy, while connecting us across cultures and generations. We are thrilled to introduce Christopher Hartford, who will be teaching music and humanities for SGCA. He is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music (2010) where he studied music performance and [...]

Early Learning Program

2024-06-22T16:36:50-04:00

Our Early Learning Program is designed to foster wonder, exploration, and discovery in a joyful and wholesome environment rich with language, living books, and Christian values. Children paint, sing, play musical instruments, explore the created world, sort natural objects, pray, celebrate, recite rhyme and poetry, dance, listen to and narrate stories and experience joy in learning. These opportunities allow us to develop habits, instill values, teach skills and activate the imagination. Our model is influenced by Charlotte Mason’s approach to classical education, emphasizing a love of learning and engaging mind, heart and soul.  Some Habits Emphasized: Truthfulness Persistence Attention Kindness Thankfulness [...]
